About Us
The first Catholic Mass in Red Lodge was celebrated in a log cabin on July 31, 1889, by Father Cyril Pouwelyn who arrived on horseback from Miles City, Montana.
In 1896, the Bishop of Montona consecrated and dedicated the original church under the patronage
of St. Agnes. That church served our Parish until August of 1996, when the decision was mode to unite the
St. Agnes Parish in Red Lodge and St. Thomas Parish
in Roberts and build a new facility.
The new building contains treasures from both of the old churches. The people of both Parishes spent many hours restoring the stained glass windows, the pews and the furniture, the flooring, and the bells from each church.
The new St. Agnes Church was dedicated March 22, 1998 by Bishop Anthony Milone.
St. Agnes is the patron saint of young girls, as well as of chastity, and rape survivors. Born to a Christian family in Rome in 291 AD and martyred in 304, she is represented with a lamb, which is a symbol of her virgin innocence.
